Since we've had a new look and feel for the website, I decided that we should follow that through for our stationery as well. Just to give it a bash, I ordered stationery that uses 100% recycled paper which is completely Chlorine free.
I sort of get the recycled bit but I didn't understand the chlorine free bit until I did a bit of reading up. In a nutshell, the bleaching process to make paper nice and white uses Chlorine. This produces dioxins which are bad for the planet.
There are 3 types of chlorine free paper that get talked about:
- Totally Chlorine Free
- Processed Chlorine Free
- Elementally Chlorine Free
The first 2 are good, the last is bad. Elementally chlorine free paper just uses a different form of chlorine called chlorine dioxide which still produces dioxins.
I have to say that I was a bit nervous about this decision as I wasn't sure what sort of quality we'd end up with. I needn't have worried. If anything, the recycled paper has the edge over the normal paper in terms of brightness and being 120gsm instead of the usual 105gsm has a much warmer feel to it.
